Functional Electrical Stimulation Course

July 8th-9th, 2011 – Auckland

The learning outcomes for this course are:

Knowledge

Each participant will be able to:

  1. Describe the mechanism of a muscle contraction.
  2. Relate stimulus parameters to therapeutic goals.
  3. Use clinical reasoning to incorporate electrical stimulation into a treatment plan for an individual patient.
  4. Critically evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the literature of clinical efficacy of functional electrical stimulation.

Skills

Each participant will be able to:

  1. Confidently and appropriately apply functional electrical stimulation in a range of clinical situations.
  2. Demonstrate use of at least two different electrical stimulation units.

Attitudes

Each participant will be able to:

  1. Respond positively to new technologies.
